Did you know,
Australia has the most venomous  SNAKES in the   ?

We actually have at least 7 of the world's most poisonous!!!!

Here are the most venomous snakes in

1 Inland Taipan Or Fierce Snake - Oxyuranus Microlepidotus

2 King Brown or Eastern Brown - Pseudechis textilis Australis

3 Coastal Taipan - Oxyuranus Scutellatus

4 Mainland or Eastern Tiger Snake Notechis scutatus
5 Black Tiger Snake Notechis ater niger

6 Sea Kraits - Laticauda Colubrina

7 Death Adder - Acanthophis Antarcticus

8 Western Brown Snake - Pseudonaja Nuchalis

Apparently there are
 NO VENOMOUS SNAKES

on Coochiemudlo Island!

Though it is always very wise to treat any snake you may see with respect and alot of common sense!!

Luckily, snake bites are not very common in Australia!

Would you believe the European Honey Bee  is responible for the most deaths caused by any animal in Australia. About 10 people die each year, that are allergic to this particular bee's sting!!

Snake bites occur mostly when  alcohol is involved.
And apparently a lot of men like play the "Hero".
Other bites usually occur when people try to handle or kill snakes. Treading on snakes in long grass when weraing no shoes is another!

The most venomous snake lives far way out in the bush, in outback Australia. There have only ever been about 4 people, who have even seen an Inland Taipan in the wild.

What should you do if you see a snake...
Stand still, hope not to scare it off, and then inch by inch get a bit closer and closer until maybe you will be lucky enough to recieve a  big, beautiful, kiss!!    ONLY JOKING!!!

Do stay still and in most cases, (hopefully) the snake will slither away. Though harmless pythons always seem a bit slow to move!

Avoid scaring, threatening or cornering the snake. If a snake feels threatened it will bite to defend itself.  Any animal for that matter, that feels threatened, will try and defend itself in any
way it can and may harm you!

If you are ever unfortunate enough to get accidently bitten by a venomous snake, here are some important tips.....

DO stay  still and try NOT to panic!

If help is far away, someone needs to go and get help.
You must not try and walk or
run!

DO get someone to place a bandage over the bite and wrap the limb, first away from the heart, then back towards the heart. The finished bandage should reach from just above the fingers or toes as far up the limb as possible with the available materials.
DO immobilise the limb, using a splint. The person bitten, should avoid any movement. Do not use a tight bandage/tourniquet to cut off the blood supply

Do not wash the bite . Venom on the skin is needed to positively identify the snake and administer the correct antivenin.  And definitely do not try and suck out the venom!!

Do not try to catch   the snake or any snake!
